How to get a Wanganui teenager to Featherston was the question on everyone's lips in Whanganui District Court last week.
John Dene Ranapia, 17, was appearing on four charges of burglary and one each of failing to appear, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a knife in a public place.
Judge David Cameron convicted Ranapia but was transferring his case to the Masterton court for sentencing, and it was too late in the day for Ranapia to catch the bus to his bail address in Featherston.
Defence lawyer Stephen Ross said Ranapia would probably hitchhike if he could not take public transport.
"He's undoubtedly streetwise in getting around - all his thefts were bicycles - but I'm not suggesting that's what he should do," Mr Ross said.
