A small island of green space in Rogers St is on the verge of being transformed into a children's playground.
The recommendation has come from the Wanganui council operations and reporting committee this week and, if signed off by council, will see $90,000 spent on the project.
Residents from the Castlecliff street, with the help of community organisation Te Ora Hou, approached the council asking for a playground in 2012. They made a submission to the council's Annual Plan because there was possible funding available to replace equipment at Hinau St playground.
Last year they made a second submission and council decided $90,000 be provided for children's playgrounds.
Senior parks officer Wendy Bainbridge said the Hinau Street playground needed replacing and had been subject to vandalism. Residents canvassed said they were not concerned the playground might be shifted.
