Family seeks help to recover dirt bike

A 16-year-old who worked hard to save money for a motorbike only to have it stolen last week "broke down in tears" when she discovered the bike had been taken from her London St home near the Aramoho Shopping Centre.

Sharna Conner bought the blue CMG 150cc dirt bike for about $400-500 in December. She was keeping it underneath a tarpaulin in her backyard when it was snatched on Tuesday between 1-2pm.

Her father Jamie Conner said their house had "big fences right around" and the thief had had to open the gate and go around to the back of the house.

The lawnmower and a small, three-wheeled children's bike had been pulled out from underneath the tarp as well, but the motorbike was gone.

"I was pretty gutted for her knowing how much she'd had her heart set on this bike," Mr Conner said.

"It was pretty special to her."

The bike had no gas so would have had to be wheeled away. As soon as the family came home that afternoon they went searching for it and asked nearby residents if they'd seen anything, with no luck.

Mr Conner suspected it was a young person who had stolen it, as it was a risky move in the middle of the day.

"An adult wouldn't be that stupid," he said.

Sharna began working with her father last year, renovating houses and had saved especially to get the bike before Christmas.

Mr Conner said knowing someone had been in their yard rifling through their possessions was also upsetting. He said police sent a letter saying there was not much they could do.
