A woman caught driving drunk and disqualified kicked a police officer because she was angry at being stopped.
Ashley Shannon Taukiri, 26, appeared before Judge Gerard Lynch in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving with excess breath alcohol and assaulting police.
The court heard that around 12.30am on October 19 Taukiri was driving on Victoria Ave and was stopped by police. She was found to be driving while disqualified and, apparently frustrated with police, walked away from them. When an officer tried to stop her she kicked them in the back of the knee. Following an evidential breath test Taukiri returned a result of 527mcg and admitted she had been drinking.
"When asked about her actions, Ms Taukiri said she was angry at being stopped," police prosecutor Sergeant Drew Morrison said.
She was remanded on bail for sentencing on January 22.
