Philippa Baker-Hogan isn't standing for mayor this year ... but says she will likely try again in 2016.
Her last attempt at the mayoralty was in 2010. She says she is not going for the top job this time because Wanganui council's wastewater problems, debt and rates issues were big and required stable leadership.
"I believe the team the mayor has around her for the next three years is vital," she said in a reference to incumbent Annette Main. "It will require a mix of the most committed and proven heads with an injection of fresh ideas and energy, requiring a mix of business and common sense approaches."
Mrs Baker-Hogan is a district councillor and Whanganui District Health Board member and is standing for both bodies again this year.
She was elected to the health board in 2004, and is the chairwoman of one of its committees. She's looking for a fourth term to make sure the regionalisation of health services end in collaboration with the Whanganui board, rather than a takeover.
