The generosity of Wanganui people has shone through after the Chronicle published a story about a local woman struggling to get by on a domestic purposes benefit.
Sarah's story was featured in Saturday's Wanganui Chronicle, which looked at calls for a living wage of $18 an hour when she was having to get by on a little more than $10 an hour from the DPB.
After all the bills were paid and food and other essentials paid for, she and her two children, 12 and 4-and-a-half, had nothing left of that $430 weekly benefit to spend on the simplest of luxuries such as a cup of coffee or going to the movies.
She can't afford to run a car and the last time the family went on holiday was eight years ago.
But despite those hardships, Sarah remains positive and is looking to enrol in a UCOL nursing course.
