Changing the way we think was the key message in a talk by a Green Party MP last night.
Dr Kennedy Graham spoke about the issues facing New Zealand on an international level in his role as global affairs spokesperson.
"Unlike the other parties, which pursue the old approach of New Zealand versus the rest of the world, we recognise the world has changed in the last 20 to 30 years and in the 21st century we've become a global community.
"So rather than continue with foreign affairs, we've renamed it the global affairs portfolio to acknowledge this.
"Government and military ideas are still stuck in 20th or even 19th century thinking in many ways, and we have to find different ways to deal with other nations instead of negotiating in a competitive way."
