Students make mark with record breaking swims

Twelve records tumbled when Wairarapa College held their annual swimming championships at the Genesis Recreation Centre pool in Masterton.

Two swimmers, Cameron Ravenwood and Taylah Mawson, were responsible for eight of the records.

Ravenwood was a commanding figure in the boys under-16 age group. His record swims came in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke.

Mawson posted records in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke n the under-16 girls division.

Overall results were:

Girls under-14: Champion: Meg Anderson. Runner-up: Alana Bresaz.

Boys under-14: Champion: Xavier Parker. Runner-up: Brodie Semmens.

Girls under-15: Champion: Molly Wilkins. Runner-up: Rebekah Bowling.

Boys under-15: Champion: Callum Pritchard. Runner-up: Jack Harley.

Girls under-16: Champion: Taylah Mawson. Runner-up: Tino Atonio-Johnston.

Boys under-16: Champion: Cameron Ravenwood. Runner-up: James Lewis.

Girls under-19: Champion: Samantha Hodgins. Runner-up: Katie Smith.

Boys under-19: Champion: Danny Hepburn. Runner-up: Bevan Brown.

House: Puketoi 120 points.5
