Ramblers
Michael Macklin provided the highlight when the Ruamahanga Ramblers held an event at Brooklyn Rd in Carterton last week.
Macklin recorded fastest time in the 5km race, dipping under the 18-minute mark for the first time by clocking 17min 51s.
The first part of the race was along the footpath on State Highway 2. With everyone starting at the same time, runners were often two abreast, with those on the outside complaining about all the dips in the driveways and those on the inside having to contend with the overhanging vegetation from gardens.
First-time Ramblers Jane Pope and Dean McDougall, who have just moved to Greytown from Auckland, came along hoping to see some new parts of Wairarapa ... unfortunately this particular race took them past the Carterton dump and the sewage ponds.
