MASTERTON'S former World Superbike ace Aaron Slight has made a surprise return to two-wheeled motor sport and is considering a return to world championship racing.
But it's not on the bikes that made his name but the relatively new Supermoto category, raced on courses that include tarmac and dirt.
Slight, who began his racing career in moto cross, entered this year's New Zealand championship despite never having raced a Supermoto. He was instantly competitive and won the final round, at Taupo last weekend, finishing the championship in second place.
Although he has dabbled in four-wheeled racing since quitting Superbikes in 2000, the return to two wheels has fired him up and he is considering contesting this year's world championship, which starts in May.
"There is an opportunity for me and we'll see if we can do something," he said.
