The Graham Richardson-trained filly Petrock did her prospects at Ellerslie on Saturday no harm with a dashing workout at Matamata yesterday.
On an easy course proper, 28m out, Petrock shaded Arousing at the end of 1200m in 1:20, the last 1000 in 1:6.8 and 600 in 38.5. Their stablemate Platonic also impressed when running 1200m in 1:21, the 1000 in 1:8.2 and 600 in 38.5.
The Guineas Trial candidates Lebanon and Ballina Kate kept on terms over 1000m in 1:9, the 600 in 38.2. French Tart and Pallas covered 1000 in 1:8.2, the 600 in 39.4.
Dundeal strode once round, the 1200m in 1:23.8 and 600 in 40.8. Class Eulogy ended some striding work with 600 in 42.8.
On a good plough, Danasia shaded Rocca after 1000m in 1:2.8, the 600 in 36.5. Malpaso Man went once round freely, the 1200 in 1:15.8 and 600 in 37.
Centreville did 1000m soundly in 1:6.8, the 600 in 37.8. Golden Dawn sprinted 1000 in 1:1, the 600 in 36.
Blown Away, preparing for a return to racing over 2000m at Ellerslie on Saturday, galloped well over 1400m on a good No 2 grass at Cambridge, taking 1:8 for his last 1000 and 40.5 from the 600.
Why Tell You and Grandioso hit out freely over 800m in 51 after starting easily from the 1200. Borstal Boy ran 800 in 52.2, the 600 in 38.2.
The Flynt and Daffodil Girl were not extended to run 800m in 53. Little Sister was going strongly with a Mohamed Abdhu mare at the end of 800 in 53.
The maiden Corsa Nostra and Be Boss made quick time on a fast plough at Takanini - 1:1 for the final 1000m of 1200 and 37 from the 600.
Little Bro and Star Clipper finished their work with 1200m in 1:20.7, the 600 in 37.8. Honor Roan sprinted 1000 in 1:2.8, the 600 in 37.8.
Krystal Klear galloped 1000m in 1:3.3, the 600 in 37.8. Toya went 1000 in 1:3.1, dashing the last 600 in 36.7.
Sar Major worked attractively at Te Awamutu, finishing 1000m on an easy No 1 grass with plenty in reserve in 1:3.1, the 600 in 37.5.
Others timed over 1000m were Ynot Pita, 1:3.8 (38.2); Ess Kay Pee, 1:4.3 (37.7); Le Rah, last of a round, 1:5.6 (38.8); Magic Winner, 1:6.5 (40.3); Miss Tralee and Florentine, 1:6.8 (40.1); Just There, steadily, 1:7.7 (40.7) and South Park, last of a round, 1:7.7 (39.8).
Four Ellerslie candidates, The River Express, Hula Jet, Lord Dancer and Somerset Beau, worked in good style at Avondale.
Hula Jet went 1000m with Merchant Banker on the outside of an easy course proper in 1:2.1, the 600 in 36.9.
Lord Dancer and Somerset Beau had their riders hard pressed to restrain them when running 800m in 49, the 600 in 36.9.
Miss Cottonblossom ran 800 in 49.6, the last 600 in 36.8.
On the No 1 grass, The River Express was hard held while running 1000m in 1:2, the 600 in 36. Straight Proof and Lenny Lights ran 800 in 50, the 600 in 35.5
The stablemates Status Quo and Maserati looked on target for Ellerslie when striding out at Pukekohe. They ran 1000m on an easy course proper in 1:4, the 800 in 50 and 600 in 37.1.
Midas Well Empress, who races at New Plymouth on Saturday, went a leisurely 1000m in 1:4, the 600 in 38.6. Kiwi Supreme did 1000 in 1:10, the 600 in 38.6.
Krissy Deming and Midnight Orb ended their work on an easy No 2 grass with 600m in 41.8.
Weight In Gold looked bright when asked to speed up his work at Te Aroha. On a firm plough, he dashed 1000m in 1:2.5, the 600 in 37.6.
Aurora Sunrise covered 1000m in 1:5.2, the 600 in 37.7. Honour Bound dashed 600 in 37.
