Getting there:
My friend and I drove to Rotorua from Auckland. Located on Fenton St, Tuscany Villas — part of the Heritage Boutique Collection — was very easy to find.
Check-in experience:
I jumped out of the car, had a quick chat to the friendly chap on reception and we were in our room with no delay. The office has a large stack of DVDs for guests to borrow and there were some fine films among them.
Room:
A modest twin suite on the top level. All you really need for an overnight stay.
What's in the neighbourhood?
Lots and lots of other hotels, motels and hostels mostly — Rotorua displays them all on the main drag. There are also plenty of fast food options nearby, as well as a Cobb & Co if you're looking to recapture some childhood nostalgia with a traffic light drink. It's a 15-minute walk, or a five-minute drive, to town.
Toiletries:
Heritage Hotel branded bodywash, shampoo and conditioner.
Food and drink:
The classic continental breakfast is delivered to your room.
The bed:
Two single beds — nothing fancy, but all we needed for a bit of shut-eye before an early morning car show.
Bathroom:
This is the drawcard — the bathroom contains a huge spa pool, great for weary travellers. It takes a while to fill, so do it in advance.
Free wi-fi?
Yes, unlimited.
Noise:
I slept quite well and didn't notice any noise, despite being on a main road.
Perfect for:
Road-trippers, families, or couples.
