More than 300 goats were shot in a cull in the Ben Lomond and One Mile reserves, near Queenstown, last month.
Queenstown Lakes District Council communications adviser Jimmy Sygrove said 327 goats were shot by contractors from a helicopter in the March 28 operation.
The dead goats could not be recovered because of the "steep and bluffy'' nature of the terrain.
The operation would be repeated in about a year, he said.
