The CHB SPCA's focus on helping animals will not change after changes at a national level.
Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' delegates voted earlier this year to bring together the 46 SPCA branches around the country into one future-focused national entity.
Previously each had its own governing committee or board. CHB SPCA chair Claire Hatfield said the decision was made after two years of discussions and consultation.
"The SPCA centres knew our structure was not sustainable or fit-for-purpose. As one SPCA we can achieve more than with each centre working independently. The focus of Central Hawke's Bay SPCA won't change: we want to help animals in need and support our community.
"But by working as a team with other centres across New Zealand we will be able to create a stronger SPCA inspectorate and we will have one strategy and one voice."
