Local woman Moira Dempsey, 103, has received an award to recognise her 80 years of service to the Women's Institute.
On Thursday, May 18, at a ceremony at Camellia Rest Home, past Pirongia president Irene Wardlaw gave a tribute to Mrs Dempsey's years of service.
Waikato Federation president Linda Kemp presented Mrs Dempsey with her 80 Year Service badge.
Mrs Dempsey is described by Women's Institute members as a delightful woman with a great sense of humour.
In 1936 Mrs Dempsey joined Kio Kio Women's Institute after marrying a local farmer.
She wanted to join earlier but was told she had to marry first, she says.
