Valentine's Day doesn't have to be expensive thanks to the clever scheduling of this year's Summer Nights concert organised by Stratford District Council.
Community development manager Kate Whareitu says holding the free concert on Friday, February 14 this year "means couples and families can come along, have a picnic dinner and enjoy the atmosphere".
The Summer Nights concert is an annual event now in its fourth year, and Kate says it is always a popular and well-attended event.
With a variety of bands providing the free entertainment, the evening is open to all. Kate says this year will be guaranteed to have the crowd dancing with Taranaki-based reggae band Soulovus booked to perform a mix of covers and original songs.
"Come along and enjoy our beautiful park with some great music and the opportunity to catch up with friends and family," says Kate, who adds that local artists will open the free show at 6.30pm.
