The first adoption day held at the Scratching Post on Broadway was a great success says Karma Andrews, who runs the store in Stratford.
"We had a great day, with all four kittens being adopted to lovely families within 40 minutes," Karma said, adding that many of the people
who came in on Saturday, buying sweets and other goods from the store, had heard about the adoption day through the Stratford Press which ran an article featuring one of the kittens up for adoption, Thomas, last week.
Thomas was in fact the first kitten to go - his new owner, Leonie Schneller, says: "I saw him in the paper and definitely wanted him, so I called in to the Scratching Post on Friday and put my name down for him."
She was first through the door on Saturday and, as soon as his adoption papers were signed, Thomas went home with Leonie and his new friend to be - her pet Pomeranian, Honey.
It wasn't long after Thomas left that Bridget McIvor, with her family, selected her favourite kitten to go to her great granny who lives in New Plymouth. Bridget described the kitten, called Sophie by the staff at the Scratching Post, as "very cute" and she was looking forward to giving her to her great grandmother.
