John Lennon's first band, from which the Beatles evolved, are to play their old school for the first time in more than 40 years.
Skiffle group the Quarry Men are to perform at what was originally Quarry Bank School when they formed in 1956, as part of the city's biggest Beatles celebration later this month.
It was an appearance by the band at a fete a year later that led to Lennon meeting Sir Paul McCartney, leading to a songwriting partnership which changed the face of music.
Members of the group - Pete Shotton, Len Gary, Rod Davies, Eric Griffiths and Colin Hanton - were in the line-up the day the two music legends met at Woolton Village Fete.
Griffiths, who now runs a dry-cleaning business in Edinburgh, said: "We've missed the last few Liverpool festivals because we were playing in America so we're looking forward to finally being part of it.
