The Counties-Manukau Cometz may consider legal action against Netball New Zealand (NNZ) for discarding them from the National Bank Cup.
Cometz board chairwoman Maree Bernasconi said it was one of the options they may consider at their meeting in the next few days.
"It'll be a board decision -- it will be up to the board," she said.
NNZ decided to cut the cup competition down to eight teams from nine from next season and connect the franchises to a region rather than a province.
The reduction is part of the national body's decision to streamline the competition in its annual review.
Bernasconi said NNZ perceived Cometz to be part of Auckland as they always referred to three Auckland franchises whenever the topic was discussed.
"It should be pointed out that the Cometz have never been and will never be part of Auckland or South Auckland," she said.
"The Cometz are Counties-Manukau which is separate from Auckland in almost every sport and in council.
"Say in case we have a lovely little talented netballer here in one of our rep teams, mum and dad will have to put her in a car and take her to Auckland or Waikato -- that's probably a three-hour round trip twice a week.
"There's a lot of people who can't afford to do that, they won't have the time or can't afford it financially. So those girls will miss out.
"I believe the league was running smoothly. One of the reasons they've given is that a bye will not required. Well, then doesn't wash with me. Who cares? So what?
"There is no proof that by reducing teams to eight it will strengthen the competition."
