NZ Herald senior rugby writer Wynne Gray names his 100 Greatest All Blacks.

This week begins the countdown of the 1st XV.

NZ Herald senior rugby writer Wynne Gray has been covering the All Blacks for almost 25 years and has attended more than 230 All Blacks tests live for the Herald.

This is a subjective list, culled from the more than a 650 men who have worn the black jersey with such distinction since 1946. Gray has selected only those who played for the All Blacks (or the famous Kiwis team) post-WWII.

Wynne Gray talks to All Black great Stu Wilson, he ended his All Black career as captain on the '83 tour when the side drew with Scotland and lost to England. He reckons Murray Mexted was supposed to be skipper but passed on that honour. The next year Wilson and his mate Bernie Fraser put out a book and in taking the proceeds, were banned from rugby for seven years. Eventually they got an official IRB pardon before four years later the same group decided the game would go professional.
