"You can't do much without the ball and the Tigers had all the ball in the first half," he said.
"The conditions affected both sides, so that's no excuse. We just dropped too much ball in this weather and we made to many mistakes.
"We tried to do too many long passes and we should have just kept it nice and close."
It was always going to be a difficult game for Pikiao - playing against the only unbeaten side in the league, however they went into the game, along with Pacific Sharks, being the only two teams in the league to take points off Hamilton this season.
The away side took an early lead through the powerful Jase Albert, having dominated the initial exchanges.
And Hamilton were 18-0 up after 21 minutes thanks to Eruera Keepa crashing over and the try of the half scored by Vaughan Calcinai, shortly after, who darting past several flailing Pikiao defenders after a neat off load from teammate Nick Read with Calcinai also converting all three for his side.
Both sides then struggled for a 15 minute period - unable to complete sets and racking up handling errors in torrential conditions.
But Hamilton extended their lead further in the 35th minute of the game, capitalising off a wayward Pikiao drop-out kick with Keepa powering over for his second of the game.
And on the stroke of half time Hamilton scored again when Albert grabbed his second try with Calcinai missing his first conversion of the game.
Pikiao were slow out of the starting blocks in the second half and three minutes in Hamilton's Aaron Jolley rose unchallenged off a high fifth tackle kick to touch down.
Five minutes later it was then 38-0 after the ball broke to Jackson Tamai Porea who touched down on the right side off the back of an impressive break from Jolley on his own try line.
Pikiao, playing in a match which now looked more like a mud wrestling contest, finally broke through a tough Hamilton defence in the 63rd minute with a neat through kick on the opposition's try line which a quick footed Hare Te Rangi dived on much to the delight of the now drenched home support.
However Hamilton scored seven minutes later through Read but Pikiao snatched their second try of the game - and Te Rangi's, in the 75th minute of the game after a quick break from Percy King on half way with a smart off load to the nifty winger who speed past Hamilton's defence which King converted.
With both sets of players now covered from head to toe in mud there was still time for Hamilton to crash over for their ninth try of the game right on the final horn.
Hamilton's coach Hira Albert was happy with the result and said it was because of a "strong foothold in the game early on".
"Today we got off on the right path, we put pressure on right from the start and kept building all the way through the game," he said.
"Everyone knows we love the dry patch but we needed to prove that we could play wet weather football and our defence was excellent.
"Our success this season is because of the culture at the club - we love to play the game. Also there is the right mixture of youth and experience in the squad. It's a great balance."
