Rotorua's Julia Edward and rowing partner Sophie McKenzie have won gold at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam.
The pair qualified fifth fastest for their A final but stormed home in the final overnight to claim gold, in the women's lightweight double scull event.
It is the first time Edward has won gold at the world champs.
Edward and McKenzie are a new pairing in the New Zealand lightweight boat, with young talent McKenzie replacing Lucy Strack for the world champs this year.
The new pairing have a bright future ahead, with the Olympics only two years away.
Not only did they win overnight but it was done in a world best time of 6min 48.56sec. They finished almost two seconds ahead of Canada and five seconds ahead of China.
