Rotorua's council will discuss changing the speed limits of some of the district's roads in an effort to improve the safety of all road users.
Councillors will discuss speed limit changes to parts of Tarawera Rd, Hamurana Rd, Otaramarae Rd and Wharenui Rd at a meeting of the council's strategy, policy and finance committee tomorrow.
In his report to councillors, the council's works manager Peter Dine said the district's speed limit bylaw allowed the council to set speed limits on all roads under its control.
Any speed limit changes must be made under rules set out by Land Transport Act and should comply with standards set at a national level.
"The council has some ability to implement speed limits outside of the rule provided that it is supported through the consultative process.
