The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter has celebrated 20 years of saving lives in the region.
Last night sponsors, supporters, crew and former crew joined former patients to mark the milestone with a function in the service's hangar at Rotorua Hospital.
Base manager and pilot Barry Vincent said the evening, which featured an audio visual presentation of the helicopter's history and speeches from trustees and Rotorua MP Todd McClay, was about recognising those in the community who made the service possible.
"All here are associated with the helicopter in some way and are proud to be connected with the service and all it's accomplished over the past 20 years," he said.
He said the rescue service, which had helped more than 1500 patients, was a vital asset to the community.
