Habitat for Humanity general manager Nic Greene said the blitz build would take place in the carpark of Bunnings Rotorua from November 26 to December 1.
Once the 106sq m four-bedroom home is up, it's expected it will be relocated to a vacant section on Turama Rd.
Those taking part in the build include staff from Bunnings, BDO Spicer and people involved in the Hamilton branch of Habitat for Humanity.
Mr Greene said they were also keen to hear from anyone who wanted to volunteer their labour for the task.
Volunteers are needed for only half a day but they could take part in the whole week if they wished.
Work on the home will begin at 9am and finish at 5pm each day, Mr Greene said. Volunteers will learn basic building skills, meet new people and contribute to a community project. About 40 volunteers are needed.
Miss Hutchins and her family will help out with the build. Eventually the family will be able to own their new home through a not-for-profit loan, and must put in 500 volunteer hours either helping on the build or working at the Habitat Restore shop, which sells donated goods.
The 38-year-old, who works 20 hours a week and has two children with high needs, said her association with Habitat for Humanity began a year ago.
"I know of friends that had a Habitat house almost 10 years ago. I was always intrigued.
"I knew I wouldn't become a home-owner any other way."
Miss Hutchins headed along to a seminar, filled out application forms and went through budgeting before being selected by Habitat for Humanity.
She said their home had always been damp and the children often sick. She'd had to deal with 280 specialist appointments over the past six years for two of her children - one with celiac disease and the other who is autistic.
She said their family wouldn't be having Christmas this year as the house was their Christmas present. Any money normally spent on presents would this year be spent on items needed for their new home, which they hope to move into by December 25.
Four of Miss Hutchins' children - Eden-Rose, 10, Niko, 9, Allannah-Grace, 7, and Elise, 2 - and Tammy's father Wally will be moving into the house.
Miss Hutchins said the children were excited about their new home and being able to have friends to stay - something they had not been able to do previously due to the damp environments of the homes they had lived in.
Miss Hutchins was excited about the build and counting down the days to it.
"It's a new beginning."
