The Rotorua and Taupo regions' families are being invited to get out, relax and de-stress at a community open day - and entry is free.
The community initiative, organised and hosted by Maori tourism operators from throughout the region, offers free entry to Wairakei Terraces, just north of Taupo. People needing transport can catch a shuttle from the Taupo i-Site from 9.45am and back from Wairakei, for a gold coin donation.
This Sunday, November 4, from 10am till 4pm, locals and visitors will be able to enjoy Maori tourism in the Central North Island region, watch traditional and contemporary entertainment, participate in interactive sessions and get away from everyday life.
Central North Island Maori Tourism acting chairman Jim Hill said local operators had been doing it tough in the current economic climate, as have many of the families in the region.
"This open day is providing a chance for our local operators to showcase what they offer to the community, because we know that many of those who live in our region often have visitors from other parts of the country and from a wide range of other countries," Mr Hill said.
