If you have ever thought of entering a women's sports event or wondered how to get in shape, the Women's Activator Series 2008 may be just the thing to steer you towards a life of fitness.
Starting this month the 10-week physical fitness and information programme organised by the Rotorua District Council and Sport Bay of Plenty is aimed at preparing women for triathlon and duathlon events.
It's the third time the activator series has been held in Rotorua.
Event co-ordinator Jess Morrison said the programme was suitable for women of all ages, sizes and fitness levels.
The activator series is ideal for women wanting to lose weight, learn a new sport, lack confidence or just want to make new friends.
"It's going to be a lot of fun," Ms Morrison said.
Last year's programme attracted mainly women aged between and 40-50 years old.
"It's just to help people get started.
"Sometimes people just need a little bit of encouragement so they feel confident enough to give it a go.
"This programme is aimed at beginners at entry level. It doesn't matter if you are young or old, fit or unfit, big or small - it's for everyone - the big, the bold and the beautiful. Women can train in a safe environment," she said.
For those who over-indulged during the festive season, it would provide them with skills to tackle that unwanted flab, Ms Morrison said.
"If your New Year's resolution is to get fit, then you will want to sign up.
"There won't be any excuse not to give this a go," she said.
From tips on swimming and breathing techniques to how to change gear on a bicycle and basic bike maintenance, women will be ready to tackle most sporting events by the end of the series.
Participants will learn how to stretch properly and gain confidence during transition from swimming, cycling and running during an event.
Maria Mills, from Event Venues, said the programme was going to be lot of fun.
Training classes will be held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre, Blue Lake Reserve and at Eastgate Business Park.
The Women's Activator Series 2008 starts on Tuesday January 22 at 6pm at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre.
Entry is $30 for the entire programme, which includes a dinner awards night at the conclusion of the training programme.
