The crash reported at Huntly occurred when a van with two adults and two child occupants rolled on a bend and struck the front of a tour coach carrying 34 Asian tourists.
A man and a woman from the van have been flown to Waikato hospital with status 2 injuries (serious but not believed to be life-threatening). The two children have very minor injuries.
Six people have been injured during two crashes near Huntly, one of them seriously.
Traffic has been backed up on State Highway One for 14 kms.
A woman was initially trapped, and is now being treated at the scene while awaiting transportation by rescue helicopter to Hamilton.
Two other peoplehave suffered moderate injuries, and two children suffered minor injuries.
One person was also treated for a moderate injury, believed to be a broken arm, following the initial crash.
