Auckland Transport is proposing changes that will limit where and how many election signs, as well as their size, can be erected in the lead-up to the general election.
The proposed changes to its Election Signs bylaw were based on feedback and the experience of last year's local elections, Auckland Transport said.
Public submissions open today and close on June 3, and changes were expected to be in place in time for the general election on September 20.
The proposed changes include:
* Allowing temporary closure of public sites that are temporarily unsuitable
* Limiting the period that signs on private property can be displayed
* Providing a minimum size of signs and their position on approved public sites
* Limiting the number of signs
* Ensuring contact details of the person responsible for the sign are legible
Auckland Transport said it would contact registered political parties to let them know that new rules may be adopted for election signage in the Auckland region.
