A missing man has left just one note behind listing items like tent, shovel, and shoes - and it bore one simple direction: "Head to Mahia."
Family members have not heard from Paul Stanley Blake since he left Australia five weeks ago but are hoping poor reception on a hiking expedition might explain his silence.
Amanda Blake described her brother, who is better known as Stan, as a "very quiet" man who loved fishing and enjoyed talking about camping and hunting.
It was "out of character" for him to have gone so long without speaking to family.
Blake left Australia, where he had previously worked as a painter in Queensland, to come to New Zealand on February 28.
