Diners outside an Auckland restaurant had a lucky escape after a car lost control and crashed into its outdoor seating area.

Multiple calls were made by witnesses to emergency services at 3.20pm on Saturday after a car collided with The Dominion bar and restaurant in Mount Eden.

The bar is on the corner of Dominion Rd and Valley Rd.

A bar worker said the car had narrowly avoided hitting a family sitting outside.

"I heard a burnout sound and then the car lost control," he said.

"My heart's racing a bit."

Nobody was injured, including the driver, but St John paramedics were on scene.

The car was believed to have had just one passenger.

A police spokesman said police were taking statements from witnesses after receiving multiple calls from the public.

He said the car had crashed through an outdoor dividing wall.
