Very Vintage Day Out: Pin-up girls, cars and even a wedding

Classic cars lovers and wannabe pin-up girls flocked to the Auckland waterfront today for The Very Vintage Day Out - and more will head down tomorrow as the annual event continues for a second day.

Now in its sixth year, the celebration of a by-gone era is being held at Shed 10 on Queens Wharf.

Husband and wife Sheena and Mike Oughton organised the 2017 day out after buying the rights to the event, which used to be held on a single day at Alexandra Park.

For $25 lovers of all things vintage can view motorbike and vintage car displays, watch fashion shows, listen to live music or tuck in to a high tea this weekend, according to the event's website.

Today's programme included the Miss Pin-Up New Zealand competition, a 1940s musical show and a wedding for a couple called Robert and Amanda.

More than 80 vendors have been on site selling a variety of vintage products.

Tomorrow between 10am and 4pm there'll be more musical performances as well as hair styling, and chances for fashionistas or those with a flair for food to win prizes.

At 12.30pm Rose Jackson from the Glory Days will choose the best dressed woman, man, kids and couple and half an hour later the "Very Vintage" bake-off, which is sponsored by Edmonds, begins - followed by a prize giving by guest judge and chef Mark Gregory.

The top 10 contestants from today's Miss Pin-Up New Zealand competition will also be participating in a Q&A session with host Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum at 3.20pm.

The weekend will close with dancing from 3.30pm.
