Palmerston North petrol station targeted by sunglass-wearing armed robber for cigarettes

Police are hunting for a robber wearing sunglasses who held up a petrol station with a knife before fleeing with a stash of cigarettes.

Manawatu CIB Detective Sergeant Jonathan Oram said the Mobil service station on the corner of Featherston and Ruahine Sts was robbed just before 10:30pm yesterday.

Security camera pictures show the man wearing sunglasses and a jacket pulled tight over his head.

Oram said the robber left on foot heading towards the Palmerston North Hospital with a number of stolen cigarettes.

There were no reported injuries.

People with information about the robbery are asked to call (06) 351 3600 or anonymously on 0800 555 111.
