Two people have been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine after armed police swooped in on a suspected drug lab on Auckland's North Shore this morning.

The 32-year-old man and 25-year-old woman will appear in North Shore District Court later today.

Police have cordoned off Bute Rd in Brown's Bay while they search the drug lab which was in an apartment about industrial units.

A resident reported waking to police dogs barking this morning and then seeing members of the Armed Offenders Squad and three fire engines. There was also people in decontamination gear.

Detective Sergeant Callum McNeill says forensic examinations of the scene are still underway and it remains closed off.

"We know this drug causes widespread harm to our communities and police will continue to target clan labs to disrupt the methamphetamine trade."
