Motorists can expect major delays after a serious crash in Tauranga this afternoon.
The NZ Transport Agency says the crash happened at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Barrett Road in Whakamarama.
A police spokeswoman said they were called to a two-car collision around 3.20pm.
She said two ambulances, police and fire attended the crash.
"One person was trapped ... one driver has serious injuries and one has minor injuries."
A tow truck removed one of the cars.
Traffic was restricted to a single lane but now it is reported both lanes are open.
The Transport Agency said the crash was causing significant delays and advised motorists to delay their travel or avoid the area.
