Police hope witnesses to a serious motorbike crash can help them piece together what went wrong.

A man was critically hurt when he crashed while riding on State Highway 1 just north of Huntly around 2pm on September 10.

He was airlifted from the crash site near Fisher Rd to Waikato Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Waikato Police would like to speak with anyone who may know what happened.
