Ground teams have been searching the beach between Oakura and Bell Block, while the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter has been searching up to 5km out to sea.

The search area expanded throughout the day as wind and tide conditions changed.

The search will be reviewed tonight and a decision will be made on the next stage.
