The Tongan Prime Minister has laid a wreath at Auckland War Memorial Museum this afternoon.

Accompanied by MP Sam Lotu-Iiga, Prime Minister Samuela 'Akilisi Pohiva laid a wreath at the plinth in the museum's Hall of Memories.

After the wreath was laid the Last Post was played, and The Ode was recited in Maori and English.

A minute's silence was then observed.

The party then departed the museum to visit the University of Auckland's law school.

The Tongan leader is visiting New Zealand for the first time as Prime Minister.
