Police are investigating an unexplained death in Rotorua.

The Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) is at the scene at a residential property on Peace St, Fenton Park.

A police spokesman said police received a report at 4.27pm of a person who was deceased at a home.

"People rang us to say there was a person dead at [a] house."

Detective Jeff Alpe, who was outside the house, told the Rotorua Daily Post it was an "unexplained death". He said he could not release any more details at this stage.

He said inquiries would continue tonight and tomorrow to establish what had taken place, and police would be containing the house overnight.

The scene is currently cordoned off.
