Emergency services are attending a two-car collision in a central Auckland suburb.

Police were called to the collision at the corner of Franklin and Ponsonby roads at 6.35pm, Inspector Jason Greenhalgh of Northern police communications said.

A person was injured but Mr Greenhalgh was unsure of the extent of the injuries.

A section of Ponsonby Rd is closed off, Mr Greenhalgh said.

Traffic is being diverted down Lincoln and Collingwood streets.

A northern Fire Service spokeswoman said the fire service was called to the crash at 6.30pm.

No one was trapped in the vehicles.

One person was transported to hospital by ambulance, she said.

A St John spokesman said one person was taken to Auckland Hospital in serious condition.
