An angry truckie snatched the car keys from a tourist driver and threw them over a fence in Queenstown yesterday.

Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown police, said the truck driver told police he forced the female driver of a rental vehicle to stop after she twice "cut him off" at the Frankton and Glenda Dr roundabouts about 7pm.

"He took the keys and threw them over a fence in frustration.

"When spoken to by police he apologised for going too far."

The woman recovered the keys before police arrived.

Sgt Newell said motorists concerned about unsafe driving should contact police on *555 instead of taking action themselves.
