A person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries after a crash between a school bus and two cars in Christchurch this morning.

St John Ambulance South Island communications manager Ian Henderson said the injured person was in one of the vehicles and was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital.

Twenty-five others, including school children who were passengers in the bus, were assessed at the scene and did not need treatment.

"It wasn't as big as it initially sounded."The incident occurred about 8am on Yaldhurst Rd, outside the fields of Villa Maria College in Sockburn.

A staff member at the school said their pupils were not believed to be involved.

Newstalk ZB reported the bus was travelling to St Margaret's College in the suburb of Merivale.

A fire service spokesman said the crash was "fairly minor" and firefighters helped at the scene.
