Police are urging anyone who has seen an 11-year-old Canterbury boy who ran away from home to contact them.

Andre Benjamin Moka ran away from his Waipara home last Friday.

But he had written posts on his Facebook page since, senior constable Andre MacFarlane said.

"He was seen at the The Palms shopping centre on Saturday but the person who saw him didn't realise he had run away from home," he said.

Mr MacFarlane said a family member saw the boy at Northlands mall yesterday but he ran away when they tried to approach him.

"At this stage police do not know whether Andre is staying at a friend's house or living rough and this in itself causes concern for his safety," he said.

Police needed to know Andre was safe, Mr MacFarlane said.

Police urged if anyone knew where Andre was to contact Canterbury Police District Youth Aid team on 03 363 7400.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-nz.org.
