Police were called to central Auckland this afternoon after being advised by a member of the public that a homeless man was carrying a firearm.
Senior Seargent Willie Taylor said they received a call about 3.30pm with a tip-off a man was seen holding a weapon in the vicinity of Victoria and Federal Street.
"We have been unable to find anyone with a firearm," he said.
"We have been on the scene for about an hour now and expect police will leave shortly."
