A woman has admitted lying about being kidnapped, drugged, assaulted and raped.
Tracy Michelle Carston, 42, told police her former partner committed the crimes, but later admitted lying when police questioned her on "inconsistencies" in her statements.
Carston had moved to Wanganui to start a new life after the relationship ended, and to reconnect with her two adult children, who disapproved of her ex-partner. In March last year, her children were expecting to see her, but were unable to get hold of her for two days, the police summary of facts said.
Carston had shown up at her daughter's house, saying her ex-partner had kidnapped, drugged, and raped her, and she had only just been able to escape.
On March 30, the ex-partner was arrested and charged with assault with intent to injure and threatening behaviour. Carston was later interviewed about "inconsistencies" in her statement, and admitted lying, saying she had been with her ex-partner and they had had consensual sex.
