A man has died in hospital after an altercation between two men in Palmerston North last night.
Police have launched a homicide inquiry into the death of the 28-year-old man, who sustained injuries to his upper body.
Officers had been called to a central city address about 10pm yesterday where an altercation had occurred.
The 28-year-old man was taken to Palmerston North Hospital where he died this morning, police said.
A 26-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with murder. He is due to appear in the Palmerston North District Court today.
Police are still examining the scene and speaking to witnesses, and a post-mortem examination would be carried out this afternoon.
No one else was being sought in relation to the death.
