The car that controversially raced across the South Island clocking speeds well above the limit so then-prime minister Helen Clark could get to a rugby test on time has been sold in Auckland.
The 2003 Ford Fairlane sedan, once part of the ministerial fleet, was initially passed in at a midweek Turners auction after failing to reach reserve.
A sale was negotiated the next day.
The former Crown limousine was listed on public auction papers as valued between $6000 and $7000 and having five previous owners.
Turners consultant Chris Kissin said the Fairlane was sold after the auction to a South Auckland car dealer, who did not wish to be identified.
