An Auckland waiter's plea for the object of his affection to get in touch has gone viral.
Rupert is a waiter at Il Buco pizza parlour on Vulcan Lane. He was dumbstruck by the good looks of a customer who stopped in for a latte and a slice on September 3 - and now a photo of Rupert holding up a pizza box with a written message for his potential lover has gone viral on social media and gay websites, with thousands of people sharing Rupert's passionate plea.
On his Facebook profile, Rupert Bear, as the 25 year old asked to be known, is holding up a pizza box with a special message.
"Three Weeks ago I served you pizza and a coffee and I told you your shoelace was undone. I've been waiting for you to come back! If you're still in Auckland find me on Facebook: Rupert Bear. I'd really like to see you again. p.s. I'm not usually this dorky."
The mystery man was described as fit-looking, in his 30s with dark hair, a bit of a beard, piercing blue eyes, possibly with an American accent, "and obviously very handsome."
"I told him his shoe was undone and he said thanks, and that was it."
Rupert was nervous talking about something that's already had almost 3000 shares on Facebook. "I wouldn't have done this if I didn't think... " Rupert dreamily told the Herald on Sunday.
"Overnight I had all these shares. I've had so many messages of support from all these people, it's humbling, I didn't expect it."
Rupert hasn't yet come up with a nickname for his fan-man.
"I refer to him as mystery man, my man, my guy, I dunno."
"One of my friends told me about Missed Connections on Craiglist, but no one knows Craiglist here so Facebook is the medium for tracking people down and getting exposure."
