A Te Kaha man was airlifted to hospital after seriously injuring his hand with a machete while hunting.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the Eastern Bay of Plenty town at 7pm last night.

The 53-year-old was hunting in the bush and while clearing a path with his machete, slipped causing serious damage to his hand.

The rescue helicopter also flew a 52-year-old Waihau Bay woman to Whakatane Hospital this morning after she was experiencing severe cardiac difficulty.
