The woman who was found killed in her Wellington home earlier this week has been named by police today.

She was Sarwan Lata Singh, 38, from Woodridge.

A 46-year-old man has been charged with murder and was granted interim name suppression when he appeared in the Wellington District Court yesterday.

Ms Singh's body was discovered by police after an emergency call, in which screaming could be heard, was made about 1.15am on Tuesday.

The accused man was also found at the property, suffering minor injuries.

He faces charges of murder, breaching a protection order and entering a building with a knife with the intent to commit a crime.

He was remanded to a secure hospital facility, where his fitness to stand trial would be assessed.

He was due to reappear in the High Court at Wellington next month.
